Rødnesedagen

In the previous post, Jenny wrote about the “Clown Doctors”. We don’t have this program in Norway, but last year, a TV-company arranged a fundraiser called Rødnesedagen. Before “Rødnesedagen” you could buy red clown noses in selected stores. The profit went to an organization called Redd Barna (Save the Children). On November 29th 2009, one should put on these noses and do something funny in front of other people and they could give money.

We don’t know if this day is going to be organized this year as well, but it was a nice way to raise money for children in other countries, children who has been raped or abused and have no place to live.

Clown Doctors

You have probably heard the old adage "laughter is the best medicine". Medical experts in the USA believe that laughter helps hospitalized children relax and deal with pain.

Many hospitals in the USA, UK and Europe are using Clown Care to make children laugh and to lighten the serious side of hospitals. This is a program involving visits from specially trained clowns. Using comedy, magic, music and juggling, clown doctors distract children during their treatment. They reduse some of the anxiety and fear that many children experience associated with hospitals.

I found some facts on the internet which explains how laughter affects human physiology:

- Reduces pain. Our bodies produce pain-killing hormones called endorphins in response to laughter.
- Strengthens immune function. A good belly laugh increases production of T-cells, interferon and immune proteins called globulins.
- Decreases stress. When under stress, we produce a hormone called cortisol. Laughter significantly lowers cortisol levels and returns the body to a more relaxed state.

I think using Clown Doctors in hospitals helps children overcome fear and to feel safe during hospitalization.

What is your opinion about Clown Doctors? :)

A joke from nomad:)

Two ducks are swimming in a pool
One duck says "quack"
The other duck says "damn! I wanted to say that"

Thanks Nomad!

HOMEWORK: Speech

Dear English-class!

In almost 7 months we have had English together, but impossible as we are, we had to change English-teacher before it had been Christmas. I will say THAT is good work.
Now we have had Finn and Richard for about 3 months and they haven’t told us yet that we are yelling too much. Unbelievable but true! Considering what a gang is gathered together.

We have Sondre, Leif, Fritz and Bendik who makes incredibly much noise in the Norwegian class, but never in English class. Laane, Lisa and Karina who sits quiet in the back and Jenny the smart one. Then we have Meum, Camilla, Karoline, Birgitte, Anette, Andrea and Nikolai who as usually is quiet, but they get some outbreaks some times.
We have those who usually come too late because of the bus and those that are late because they couldn’t get out of bed. And up in all this, we have me, Hedda, who once said she wanted to be police, which she has heard almost every English lessons since. Fun but ... there is no "but" except that I'm a little embarrassed at times.

Now I'll try not to forget someone, or in other words, try to get several peoples in this little speech. I have soon mentioned everyone in the class, we have Bakke, a great guy and the only boy in this class that I dare to read English with.

Now to go a little bit into the teachers...
Richard, you have some very crazy stories to tell, and I am not alone in asking myself the question "Is this true?" but since you are a teacher, I believe in you and hope you don't lie because that is a stupid thing to do to the girl who want to become a police.
Then we have Finn, a nice guy who let us drop cheap from the most.

This class is amazing and I look forward to 3 more months with you, hope you continue to be yourself so that English lessons remain the highlights of the week.

Thanks
